People often ask what is WebP format, and the short answer is: a picture format Google released in 2010 to make websites load faster. It stores pictures 25 to 35% smaller than JPG or PNG, and it can be lossy like JPG, lossless like PNG, transparent and even animated.

Websites, online shops, Google Images and messaging apps use it everywhere. But many editors, design tools, printers, upload forms and older programs still expect PNG or JPG, which is when converting helps.

This converter is made for the WebP pictures people really have: logos and icons with transparent backgrounds, stickers from WhatsApp and Telegram, product cut-outs, screenshots and photos saved from websites. Each one becomes a PNG with exactly the same pixels and the same transparency.

If you need more than a plain copy, it can also make a plain white background transparent, resize to an exact size, write a DPI for print, or make a smaller PNG with fewer colours, all in the same step and for hundreds of pictures at once.

Choose PNG when the picture has a transparent background, when it is a logo, icon, sticker, diagram or screenshot with sharp edges and text, or when you want to edit it further without losing quality each time you save.

For photos you only want to share or upload, JPG is usually the better target because it is much smaller; WebP to JPG does that, with transparent areas filled with white.

WebP and PNG both support transparency, so a WebP to PNG transparent conversion keeps see-through areas exactly as they were, including soft edges and shadows. Nothing is filled with white or black, and the result drops straight onto any background.

If the WebP has a plain white or coloured background instead, choose Remove background and that background becomes transparent too, while the same colour inside the subject is kept.

WhatsApp, Telegram and Signal stickers are WebP pictures, usually 512 × 512 pixels with a transparent background. A WebP sticker to PNG conversion gives you a file that works in any editor, document, presentation or design tool, with the transparency kept.

A PNG made from a lossy WebP photo is often larger than the WebP, because PNG stores every pixel instead of an approximation. That is the price of an exact, editable copy; for photos, JPG is the smaller choice.

Lossless WebP keeps every pixel, like PNG, and is used for graphics, logos and screenshots. Converting it to PNG gives a pixel-perfect copy, usually somewhat larger because PNG compresses less tightly.

Lossy WebP works like JPG and is used for most photos on the web. Converting it to PNG keeps the picture exactly as you see it, but cannot bring back detail that was removed when the WebP was made.

Pictures are converted in sRGB, the standard colour space for screens and the web, so the PNG looks the same in every browser and app. Colours stay true to the WebP, and transparency is stored in a full 8-bit alpha channel, so soft shadows and anti-aliased edges stay smooth.

Graphics that use 256 colours or fewer are saved as a palette PNG automatically, which is exact and much smaller. Photos keep millions of colours.

Screenshots, diagrams, charts and pictures with text are where PNG shines: edges stay perfectly sharp and flat colours stay flat, with none of the blocky smudges JPG adds around letters.

If a screenshot was saved as lossy WebP, the PNG keeps it exactly as it is now, smudges included; it cannot add back detail, but it will not lose any more.

When you right-click a picture on a website and choose Save image as, the browser often saves it as WebP, because that is what the site sent. Most browsers have no reliable way to save WebP as PNG straight from the page.

Pictures from Google Images, Pinterest, shops and news sites are very often WebP, even when the address ends in .png or .jpg. A WebP image to PNG conversion here works whatever the file is called, because the picture itself is read, not the name.

Mixed folders convert in one batch: WebP, JPG, AVIF, GIF, BMP, HEIC and SVG pictures all become PNG with the same settings.

If a program refuses a WebP file, the file is fine; the program simply does not support the format. Older Paint and Photo Viewer, many printing services, some design tools and older versions of Photoshop cannot open it.

Email is one place where WebP still causes trouble: several popular email programs show a broken picture or nothing at all instead of a WebP image. Newsletters, signatures and transactional emails are safest with PNG for logos and graphics and JPG for photos.

Convert the logo and icons for your email signature here, keep the transparency, and use Exact size so they appear crisp at the size you want.

Many marketplaces, print-on-demand services and ad platforms accept JPG and PNG but not WebP. Product cut-outs, logos for merchandise and artwork for printing on T-shirts and mugs usually need a PNG with a transparent background.

Convert the whole folder of product graphics at once, keep the transparency, and add 300 DPI under More options when the file goes to a printer.

Logos downloaded from a company website or a brand portal are often WebP. Designers, printers and agencies almost always ask for PNG, with a transparent background, in a few standard sizes. Convert the logo once at full size, then use Exact size to make smaller versions for favicons, email signatures and social profiles.

Keep Lossless for the master copy, and use Smaller file only for the small web versions, so the original stays perfect for print.

Game engines, app builders and slide tools often import PNG only. Sprites, UI icons and illustrations saved from the web as WebP convert here with their transparency intact, so they drop straight into Unity, Godot, Figma, Keynote or PowerPoint.

For a sprite sheet or a set of icons, add the whole folder and use Exact size to give every picture the same dimensions, with transparent space around anything smaller.

Social networks accept PNG everywhere, and PNG keeps text, logos and illustrations crisp in posts, banners and profile pictures. The networks recompress uploads anyway, so starting from a clean, exact PNG gives them the best material to work with.

For the exact sizes each network wants, such as 1080 × 1080 for an Instagram post, use the presets in Resize Image.

An animated WebP works like a GIF, with several frames. PNG holds one still picture, so the first frame is saved as the PNG, with its transparency kept.

This is useful for thumbnails, previews and still versions of animated stickers. To keep the movement, keep the original file or use a GIF.

PNG files can be large. Under More options choose Smaller file to store up to 256 colours instead of millions; logos, icons, stickers and screenshots often shrink by 60 to 80% and look the same, with transparency kept.

For photos, fewer colours can show banding in skies and gradients, so keep Lossless or convert photos to JPG instead. Compress Image offers even more ways to make pictures lighter.

Add up to 500 pictures at once, or a whole folder. The work is shared across the cores of your processor, so a hundred pictures usually take well under a minute, and the same settings apply to all of them.

Download all puts every PNG into one ZIP, keeping the folder structure when you added a folder. File names stay the same with the .png extension, or get -converted added if you prefer.

There is no need to save a picture first. Copy it in another app or browser tab, click this page and press Ctrl+V, or Cmd+V on a Mac; it is added like any file. Press Ctrl+Enter to convert without reaching for the mouse.

When a single PNG is ready, the Copy button puts it back on the clipboard, so you can paste it straight into a document, chat or design tool.

Converted files keep the original name with .png at the end, so logo.webp becomes logo.png. Pictures with the same name from different folders are numbered so nothing is overwritten in the ZIP.

Tick Add -converted to file names under More options to keep the converted copies apart from the originals when you save them in the same folder.

Resize while converting: Longest side scales large pictures down without enlarging small ones, Percentage scales every picture by the same amount, and Exact size makes every picture the same width and height, for example 512 × 512 for stickers or icons.

When a picture is fitted inside an exact size, the space around it stays transparent. For sizes in centimetres, social media presets and crop positions, use Resize Image.

On an iPhone or Android phone, open this page in Safari or Chrome and tap Select images. Stickers and pictures saved from apps are often WebP, and many apps and forms do not accept them; the PNG copies work everywhere.

When the files are ready, tap Download and they appear in your downloads or Files app, ready to share or edit.

DPI tells printing and design software how large to print a picture; it does not change the pixels. Choose 300 DPI under More options for print shops, or 72 or 96 for screens. The value is written into the PNG.

Pictures from websites are often small, so check the pixel size before printing large.

PNG has been a stable, open standard since 1996 and every computer, phone and program can read it. Keeping logos, artwork and graphics as PNG is a safe choice for an archive that must still open in decades.

Because PNG is lossless, the archived copy is exactly as good as the picture you converted, and it can be converted again later to any other format without extra loss.

Hidden details such as camera data and location are removed by default, so the PNG you share reveals less about you; you can keep them under More options.

Each picture is decoded by your browser's built-in WebP decoder and drawn onto an invisible canvas at full size, transparency included. If you asked for it, a plain background is made transparent and the picture is resized in smooth steps.

The pixels are then written into a PNG: losslessly, or with up to 256 colours if you chose Smaller file. Pictures that already use 256 colours or fewer are stored that way automatically, which keeps them exact and smaller. The work runs in background workers so the page stays smooth.
