How to Change a PDF Page Size

Fit, Fill or Stretch?
A4 and Letter are not the same shape, so content moving between them cannot fill the new page perfectly — something has to give. Fit scales the content until it all fits inside, which guarantees nothing is lost but may leave a thin strip of white along one edge. This is the right choice for documents, contracts and anything where losing a line of text would matter.
Fill does the opposite: it scales until the content covers the whole page, trimming whatever overhangs. Use it for edge-to-edge artwork, posters and photo books where a white border would look wrong and the outer few millimetres carry nothing important.
Stretchdistorts the content to match the new proportions exactly. It is included for completeness and you should rarely want it — text becomes subtly wrong in a way readers notice without being able to say why. If you find yourself reaching for it, Fit with a small margin is almost always the better answer.
One thing worth knowing about how this works: each page is re-embedded as vector contentrather than rendered to an image. Text stays real text — selectable, searchable and sharp at any zoom — and images keep their original resolution. Only the page geometry changes.
