Crop PDF Online

Add a PDF to the box above and choose how to crop it. Draw a box around the part you want to keep, let the tool remove the white margins on its own, or cut a fixed amount from each edge in millimetres or inches. Then choose which pages to crop and what size the pages should have afterwards, press the crop button under the settings and download the result.

Everything happens in your browser. The PDF is opened and cropped on your own device and is not uploaded to our server, so even a large file of up to 300 MB is ready quickly and stays private. The only exception is a password-protected PDF: the password is sent to our server once to open the file, and that copy is deleted straight away.

This is a tool to crop PDF online free of charge: no sign-up, no account, no watermark on the pages and no limit on how many files you crop one after another. The only limit is the size of a single file, 300 MB, which covers scanned books, long reports and big batches of labels.

Nothing is added to the result. There is no logo, no stamp and no line of text about where the file was made. The new PDF has the same number of pages as the original, with the same text, fonts and pictures; only the visible area of the chosen pages changes. The file name gets -cropped added to it, so the original stays easy to find.

Under Pages you decide where the crop is used. All pages crops every page of the document. This page crops only the page you are looking at in the preview; use the arrows above the preview to move to the page you want. Choose pages lets you type a list of pages and ranges.

The list works the way it does in a print dialog. Separate pages with commas and use a dash for a range: 1-3, 5, 8-end crops pages 1, 2, 3, 5 and every page from 8 to the last one. The word end always means the last page, so you do not need to know the page count. If the list cannot be read, the box turns red and the button waits until it is fixed.

Pages you do not choose stay exactly as they are, in their original place in the document. This lets you crop PDF pages that need it, such as a scanned appendix or a single wide chart, and leave the rest of the file untouched. If you want the other pages gone instead, crop first and then remove them with Delete Pages, or pull out only the pages you need with Split PDF.

You do not have to work page by page. When you draw a box, the same area is used on every chosen page, which is exactly what you want for documents with a fixed layout: a scanned book where every page has the same dark border, a set of slides with the same empty band, or a report with a wide column for notes.

To crop PDF multiple pages that are not laid out the same way, use Remove white margins. Each page is checked on its own and trimmed to its own content, so a page with a short paragraph becomes a small page and a full page stays large. If the pages should all keep one size, tick Same crop on every page: the tool then finds one box that holds the content of every chosen page and uses it for each of them, so nothing is cut off anywhere.

Before you press the button, check a few pages with the arrows above the preview: the box stays where you drew it. If one page is different, such as a cover, leave it out with Choose pages and crop it in a second run.

There are two ways to crop PDF margins, and they suit different files. Remove white margins is automatic: the tool draws a small copy of each page, finds the area with text, lines and pictures, and cuts away the white around it. You choose how much white to keep, from 0 to 50 mm. The default of 2 mm keeps the text from touching the edge of the new page.

Automatic detection treats white and very light grey as empty. That works well for digital documents such as reports, papers, invoices, forms and exported slides. It works less well on scans, because a scanned page is rarely pure white: the paper looks grey or yellowish, and the edges often carry a dark shadow from the scanner lid, which counts as content. For scans, Draw a box or Cut margins gives a better result.

Cut margins removes a fixed amount from each edge. Type the top, right, bottom and left values in millimetres or inches. For example, 10 mm on every side turns an A4 page of 210 × 297 mm into a page of 190 × 277 mm. Use this when you know exactly how much to remove, when a print shop asks for a certain trim, or when every page must lose the same amount.

A margin removed this way disappears from view, but nothing inside the remaining area moves or changes size. If you want the content to be larger on paper afterwards, choose A4 or Letter as the page size after cropping: the remaining area is then scaled up to fill the new page.

Shipping labels from marketplaces and carriers often arrive as a full A4 or Letter page with the label in one corner or one half, plus instructions, a packing slip or empty space. Thermal label printers use rolls or stacks of 4 × 6 inch labels, so the full page either does not print at all or comes out tiny. The fix is to crop PDF to 4x6: keep just the label and put it on a page of exactly that size.

Here is how. Add the PDF, choose 4 × 6 in label under Page size after cropping, and draw a box around the label. When you pick this size, the box moves to the upper part of the page, where many labels sit, so often you only need to adjust the corners. Fit box to content can help too, but only when the label is the only thing on the page. Press the crop button: the label is enlarged to fill the 4 × 6 inch page and centred on it.

The page turns to suit the label. With orientation on Automatic, a label that is wider than it is tall gets a 6 × 4 inch landscape page, and a tall one gets a 4 × 6 portrait page. Most thermal printers expect portrait 4 × 6, so if yours prints sideways, open the extra options and set Orientation to Portrait. You can also add a small white border there if the printer clips the edges.

If a PDF holds many labels, one per page, keep All pages: the same box is used on each page and you get one 4 × 6 page per label, ready to print as a batch. If two labels sit on one page, crop the file twice, once with Top half and once with Bottom half, and join the two results with Merge PDF.

When printing, choose 4 × 6 or 100 × 150 mm paper in the printer settings and pick actual size or 100% scale in the print dialog, so the label is not shrunk a second time. Barcodes stay crisp and scan reliably, because the label is placed on the new page as sharp vector content, not as a photo of the page.

To crop PDF to A4 size, choose the area to keep in any of the three ways, then choose A4 under Page size after cropping. The tool puts the cropped area on a new page of 210 × 297 mm, scales it to fill the page as far as possible without stretching it, and centres it. Text, lines and images are scaled as shapes, not as pixels, so they stay sharp.

This is useful when a document comes in an odd size, such as a scan with a dark border, a page exported from a design program with bleed and crop marks, or a slide that should fill a printed sheet. It also works the other way round: a small area, such as a single chart or a table, is enlarged to fill a whole A4 page.

The shape of the area matters. A4 has a ratio of about 1 to 1.41. If the area you keep has a different shape, it fills the page in one direction and leaves white space in the other, because it is never stretched or squeezed. With orientation on Automatic, a wide area gets a landscape A4 page, so less space is lost. You can also choose Portrait or Landscape yourself, and add a white border in mm around the content.

If you need to crop PDF to letter size, it works the same way: choose the area, pick Letter, and the cropped part is placed on a page of 8.5 × 11 inches (216 × 279 mm), scaled to fit and centred. Letter is the standard paper in the United States, Canada and a few other countries, and the default in most printers sold there.

A common case is a document made on A4 that has to be printed on Letter paper, or the reverse. The two sizes are close but not the same: A4 is narrower and taller. Printing one on the other usually leaves a white strip or cuts a few millimetres off an edge. Cropping away the white margins first and then placing the content on a Letter page gives a clean result with even spacing.

Remove white margins together with Letter is a quick way to make the most of the paper: the content is trimmed to its edges and then enlarged until it reaches the sides of the new page. Add a white border of 6 to 10 mm under the extra options if your printer cannot print to the very edge.

If you need to crop PDF to specific size that is not in the list, choose Custom and type the width and height in inches, from 1 to 60. Use a decimal point for parts of an inch, for example 5.5 × 8.5 for a half-letter booklet page. For sizes given in millimetres, divide by 25.4: 100 × 150 mm is about 3.94 × 5.91 inches.

There are two ways to reach an exact size, and they work differently. With a Custom page size, the area you keep is scaled to fit a page of exactly that size, so the page is right but the content may be enlarged or reduced. With Cropped size and Cut margins, the content is not scaled at all, and the page becomes whatever is left after cutting. If you need a 150 mm wide page from a 210 mm one without scaling, cut 30 mm from the left and 30 mm from the right.

While you drag, the size of the drawn box is shown under the preview in millimetres, so you can also draw a box of roughly the right size by eye and then fine-tune it with the corner handles.

Many quick ways to cut out part of a page, such as taking a screenshot or exporting the page as a picture, turn the page into pixels. The text can no longer be selected or searched, small print gets blurry, and the file often grows. This tool lets you crop PDF without losing quality, because it never turns anything into an image.

With Cropped size, the tool only changes the page boxes: the values in the PDF that say which part of the page is shown and printed. The page content itself, meaning the text, fonts, lines and pictures, is not touched at all. With A4, Letter, 4 × 6 or Custom, the original page is placed on the new page as vector content and scaled as a whole, the way a print dialog scales a page. Text stays text, and barcodes keep their crisp edges at any size.

Images inside the PDF keep their original resolution. If a photo in the cropped area was 300 dpi before, it still holds every pixel. If you enlarge a small area to fill a big page, the photo is shown larger and its effective resolution drops in the same proportion, just as it would if you zoomed in on screen. Text and lines have no such limit.

To crop PDF on Mac you only need a web browser: Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Edge all work. Open this page, drop the PDF from a Finder window onto the box, draw the area and download the result to your Downloads folder. There is nothing to install and no app to keep up to date.

The same page works on Windows, Linux, Chromebook, iPhone, iPad and Android. On a phone or tablet, tap the box to choose the file from the Files app or a cloud drive, then draw the box with your finger: drag on the page to make a new box, drag inside it to move it, and drag a corner to resize it. A stylus works too. On a small screen it is easiest to start with Fit box to content, Top half or Bottom half and then adjust.

Because the file is cropped in the browser, the speed depends on your device. On an older phone, Remove white margins takes longer on big files; Draw a box is the fastest mode.

Scanned PDFs are pictures of pages, and cropping works on them just as well. A typical scan of a book has a dark border around the page, a strip of the opposite page, or a thumb at the edge. Draw a box around the printed area on one page and use it on all pages, or on a range if the left-hand and right-hand pages sit in different places.

For a book scanned two pages at a time, crop the file twice: once with a box around the left page and once around the right page. Then join the two results with Merge PDF and put the pages in reading order with Organize PDF.

Remove white margins is less reliable on scans, because grey paper, shadows and specks of dust all count as content. If it leaves too much, switch to Draw a box. Cropping a scan does not make the text searchable or sharper; it removes the parts you do not want to see and print, which often also makes the page easier to read.

Slides exported to PDF often sit on a page with wide white bands, and handouts put a small slide in the middle of a large sheet. Academic papers and reports have generous margins meant for binding and notes. On a phone, tablet or e-reader, that empty space makes everything smaller than it needs to be.

Remove white margins fixes this in one step: each page is trimmed to its content with a small border, so the text fills the screen when you open the file. For reading on a tablet, keep Cropped size. For printing, choose A4 or Letter so the trimmed content is enlarged onto a full sheet; with orientation on Automatic, wide slides get landscape pages.

This is worth knowing before you share a cropped file. With Cropped size, the parts outside the box are hidden by the page boxes, not deleted from the file. Every PDF viewer and printer shows only the cropped area, but the original content is still inside the file, and someone with a PDF editor could make it visible again by resetting the page boxes.

For most uses that does not matter: margins, empty space and printing instructions next to a label are not secret. But if you crop away a name, an account number, a price or anything else private, do not rely on cropping to remove it. To remove it for good, print the cropped PDF to a new PDF with the print dialog of your computer, or use a redaction tool that really deletes the content.

Some PDFs store a page upright and add a rotation that turns it on screen; scans and landscape pages are often saved this way. The tool works with the page as you see it in the preview, so the box you draw is the area you get, whatever rotation is stored in the file. The cropped page keeps facing the same way.

If a page is sideways in the preview, it will still be sideways after cropping. Turn it the right way first with Rotate PDF, then crop.

Documents with pages of different sizes are fine. A drawn box is stored as a share of the page width and height, so on a smaller page the box is smaller in millimetres but covers the same part. With Cut margins, the exact amounts in mm or inches are cut from every page whatever its size. With Remove white margins, each page is measured on its own.

If a PDF is encrypted, the tool asks for its password. A browser cannot open such a file by itself, so the file and the password are sent to our server once over an encrypted connection. The server sends back an unlocked copy and deletes its own copy straight away; the password is not stored. The cropping itself still happens in your browser, and the cropped PDF has no password.

Files that only limit editing or printing are encrypted too, so they also ask for a password. Without the password the file cannot be cropped. Only crop documents you are allowed to change.

One PDF at a time, up to 300 MB. To crop several files in the same way, join them first with Merge PDF, crop them in one run and split them again with Split PDF if you need separate files.

With Cropped size the cut-away parts are hidden, not deleted, as explained above. The tool does not remove content, so it is not a way to redact private information.

With A4, Letter, 4 × 6 and Custom, links and form fields on the cropped pages are not carried over to the new pages, because the page is placed as a drawing. Use Cropped size if you need them to keep working.

Cropping rarely makes a file much smaller, because the hidden content stays inside. To reduce the size, use Compress PDF after cropping.

Once your pages are cropped, you can join the result with other files using Merge PDF, put pages in a new order with Organize PDF, or make the file smaller for email with Compress PDF.
