Rotate PDF Pages

To rotate PDF pages, add your file to the box above, choose which pages to turn, press Left 90°, Right 90° or 180°, and then save. Every page shows as a small thumbnail that turns as you click, so you can check the result before anything is saved. Several files can be fixed in one go.

Everything happens in your browser, so your PDF is not uploaded. The new rotation is written into the file itself, which means it opens the right way up in every viewer, on every device, for everyone you send it to. Nothing on the page is redrawn, so text stays sharp and selectable.

Pages end up the wrong way round more often than you would think. A scanner feeds a sheet in sideways, a phone camera guesses the wrong orientation, a wide table is printed in landscape in the middle of a portrait report, or two documents with different page shapes are joined together. The result is a file that makes people tilt their head or turn their laptop.

Wrong orientation is more than a small annoyance. A sideways page is hard to read on a phone, prints at the wrong size on some printers, and looks careless when it lands in a client's inbox or an application portal. Online forms and document systems often show a preview of the first page, so a sideways cover page is the first thing a reviewer sees.

Turning the page in your PDF reader only fixes it for you, and only until you close the file. When you send the document to a client, upload it to a portal or print it, the page is sideways again. Fixing the orientation in the file itself is the only way to make it stay fixed, and that is exactly what this tool does.

If you want to rotate PDF and save permanently, the change has to be written into the file, not just into the viewer you happen to be using. Every page in a PDF has a small setting that tells readers how far to turn it when showing it. This tool updates that setting for each page you turned and saves a new copy of the file.

Because only that setting changes, the rotation is lossless. Text, images, fonts and vector drawings are not redrawn or compressed again, so the page looks exactly as sharp as before, text can still be selected and searched, and the file size stays about the same. If a page already had a rotation, your turn is added on top of it.

The saved file opens the right way up in Adobe Reader, Chrome, Edge, Safari, Preview, phone apps and printers. You can keep the original name or, by default, get a copy ending in -rotated so the old version is not mixed up with the new one.

To rotate PDF 90 degrees clockwise, choose the pages and press Right 90°. For 90 degrees anticlockwise (counterclockwise), press Left 90°. Press 180° for pages that are upside down. Each press adds to the turn, so two presses of Right 90° also make 180°, and four bring the page back to where it started.

Every thumbnail turns at once to show the result, and a small badge in its corner shows the total turn, such as 90° or 270°. If you change your mind, Reset sets the chosen pages back to their original orientation before you save anything.

To rotate one page in PDF documents without touching the others, find the page in the thumbnail grid and use the small ↺ and ↻ buttons in its top corner. On a computer they appear when you point at the page; on a phone they are always shown. Only that page turns, and its new angle is shown on the thumbnail.

To turn a handful of single pages the same way, click each of them to select it, then press Left 90°, Right 90° or 180°. You can also type the page numbers in Page range, which is handy for long files where scrolling to page 87 takes a while.

To rotate all pages in PDF files at once, leave Which pages on All pages and press the direction you need. A 300-page report that was scanned sideways is fixed in one click, and the thumbnails show every page turning together.

Because nothing is redrawn, turning every page of a long file takes about as long as turning one. The thumbnails are drawn only as you scroll to them, so even a file with hundreds of pages opens quickly and stays smooth on a phone.

Mixed documents are just as quick. Choose Odd or Even to fix one side of double-sided scans, or Landscape to turn only the wide pages. With several files open, keep Apply to all PDFs ticked and the same pages are turned in every file.

To rotate PDF landscape to portrait, press All pages portrait under Fix automatically. Every wide page is turned 90 degrees so it stands upright, and pages that are already tall are left alone. All pages landscape does the opposite and lays every tall page on its side, which suits slides, plans and wide tables.

If you would rather choose the direction yourself, pick Landscape under Which pages and press Left 90° or Right 90°. Only the pages that are currently wide are turned. The page size is not changed by rotation: an A4 landscape page becomes an A4 portrait page with the same content, just turned. To trim the edges of a page instead, use Crop PDF.

A scan is a photo of a page stored inside a PDF, so it can be turned just like any other page. To rotate scanned PDF pages, select them and press the direction you need. The image inside is not touched or compressed again, so the scan keeps its full quality.

Turn sideways pages upright works on pages that contain real text, such as exported documents or scans that already went through OCR. It reads the direction the text runs on each page and turns that page so the text reads normally. A plain scan without a text layer has no text to read, so the tool tells you how many pages it could not check, and you turn those by hand in a few clicks.

Double-sided scans often have every second page upside down. Choose Even, press 180°, and the whole stack is fixed at once.

Phone scanning apps and office copiers sometimes mix both problems in one file: a few pages lying on their side and a few upside down. Work through it in passes. Use the automatic fix for pages with text, select the sideways scans and press Right 90° or Left 90°, then select the upside-down ones and press 180°. The badges on the thumbnails show at a glance which pages you have already changed.

You can add up to 20 PDFs at a time, each up to 500 MB. They appear in a list with their page count and size, and Show pages switches the thumbnail grid to another file. Settings such as All pages, Odd, Even, Landscape or a range can be applied to all files together, so a folder of sideways scans is fixed in one run.

The page grid always shows one file at a time, so it stays fast even with many large documents open. A count next to each file name shows how many of its pages are set to turn, which makes it easy to check that nothing was missed before you save.

When you save, one file downloads as a PDF and several files download together as one ZIP. Each file keeps its own name, with -rotated added at the end unless you turn that off under File names.

You do not need Acrobat or any paid editor. To rotate PDF without Adobe software, open this page in any browser, add the file and press the direction you want. The tool is free, adds no watermark and does not ask you to sign up.

Adobe Acrobat Reader, the free version, can turn the view of a page, but saving that change into the file is usually reserved for the paid version. Here the rotation is always saved into the file, at no cost, and the document still opens normally in Acrobat afterwards.

The same goes for desktop editors you would have to download and install. For a quick fix to a few pages, a browser tab is faster: there is no installer, no trial period and no account, and the file never has to leave your computer.

To rotate PDF in Windows 10 or Windows 11, open this page in Edge, Chrome or Firefox, add the file from File Explorer or drag it onto the box, turn the pages and download the result. It lands in your Downloads folder as a normal PDF, ready to email, print or upload.

Microsoft Edge, the default PDF reader on Windows, has a rotate button in its toolbar, but it is meant for reading and the change does not always stay with the file. When the orientation has to be fixed for good, for a client, an office portal or a printer, saving it here takes less than a minute. The same steps work on a Mac, Linux and a Chromebook.

The PDF viewer built into Google Chrome has a rotate button, but it only turns the view on your screen. Close the tab and the page is sideways again. To rotate PDF in Chrome and keep the result, open this page in a Chrome tab, add the PDF, turn the pages and save. The download is a real file with the rotation written in.

The tool works the same way in Edge, Firefox, Safari, Opera, Brave and Samsung Internet. It runs inside the browser tab using the computer or phone you already have, so there is no extension to install and nothing to keep up to date.

To rotate PDF on iPhone or iPad, open this page in Safari or Chrome, tap Select PDF files and pick the PDF from Files, iCloud Drive, Google Drive or a mail attachment. Tap the pages you want, tap the direction, then tap the red button under the settings and download the new file to Files.

On Android it works the same way in Chrome or Samsung Internet. On a touch screen the small ↺ and ↻ buttons are always shown on every page, so turning a single page is one tap. Phones have less memory than computers, but turning pages does not redraw them, so even long files are quick.

If a PDF needs a password to open, the tool shows a password box on that file. Unlocking it is the one step that uses our server: the file is uploaded over an encrypted connection, the protection is removed, and the file is deleted from the server straight after. The tool says this next to the password box before you type anything.

If the password is wrong, the tool says so on the file's card and you can simply try again. You only need it once per file, because the copy you save has no protection.

Once unlocked, the pages are turned in your browser like any other file, and the saved copy has no password. If you only want to remove a password, Unlock PDF does that on its own. A file that is damaged and cannot be read at all is marked as such in the list instead of failing silently.

Your PDF is not uploaded. Reading the file, drawing the thumbnails, finding sideways pages, saving the new rotation and building the ZIP all happen in your browser, on your own device. That matters for contracts, bank statements, medical letters and ID documents.

The only exception is a password-protected PDF, which is unlocked on our server when you type its password, and deleted right after. Everything else stays on your device, and the tool keeps no copy of your files.

When you add a PDF, it is read by two open-source libraries that run inside the page: PDF.js, the engine Firefox uses to show PDFs, draws the thumbnails and reads the text direction, and pdf-lib reads each page's size and current rotation.

When you save, pdf-lib opens the original file again, adds your turn to the rotation setting of each changed page and writes the file back out. Page content is copied as it is, so nothing is converted, redrawn or compressed. Because all of it runs on your device, the speed depends on your computer or phone, and most files are done in a second or two.

Fix text pages first with Turn sideways pages upright, then look through the thumbnails for any scanned pages it could not check and turn those by hand.

For double-sided scans, use Even and 180° rather than clicking every second page.

Keep the -rotated ending until you have checked the new file, then delete the old one. That way you never send the wrong version.

Fix the orientation before you merge, sign or number pages. Turning pages after a signature or page numbers have been added turns those too.

With every page the right way up, you can put files together with Merge PDF, pull out a few pages with Split PDF, or remove unwanted ones with Delete Pages. To change the order of pages, use Organize PDF.

If some pages should not be there at all, it is often easier to remove them than to turn them, and if the page order is wrong as well as the orientation, fix both before you share the file.

Before you send the file, Compress PDF makes it smaller for email, Sign PDF adds your signature, and Add Page Numbers numbers the pages. For a single photo rather than a PDF, use Rotate Image, and to turn a page into a picture, use PDF to JPG.
