Passport Size Photo Maker

This passport size photo maker turns an ordinary photo into a passport, visa or ID photo of the right size. Add one photo, pick the size, line up the head with the green guides and press Make passport photo. You get a single photo for online forms and, if you like, a sheet of copies ready to print.

Choose from 12 ready sizes, including 35 × 45 mm for India, the UK and Europe, 2 × 2 inches for the United States, and 25 × 35 mm for a PAN card. You can also type your own size in millimetres. Cropping, sizing and the print sheets all happen in your browser.

You can make a passport size photo online free here, with no account, no watermark and no limit on how many photos you make. There is nothing to install. The page works in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on a computer, a tablet or a phone.

Photo studios charge for a set of prints, and many apps add a watermark until you pay. Here you get the full-size photo and the print sheet straight away. You only pay for the print itself, at a shop or on your own printer.

This passport size photo maker does three things. It crops your photo to the exact shape of the size you choose. It helps you place the head at the right height and size. And it saves the result at the right pixel size, for print or for an online form.

It does not check biometric rules. It cannot tell whether your expression is neutral, whether your eyes are open, whether glasses cause glare or whether the light is even. Those depend on the photo you take. Always read the current rules of the office you apply to. They decide whether a photo is accepted, not any website.

Head placement is automatic only after the background is removed, because the cut-out shows where the head is. If you keep the original background, the frame starts in the centre and you line up the head yourself with the green guides. It only takes a few seconds.

The passport photo 35x45 mm is the most common size in the world. India, the United Kingdom, the Schengen countries, the rest of the European Union and Australia all use it. Many Indian exam, bank and ID forms ask for the same shape too. In the list, choose Passport size 35 × 45 mm under India, or the UK, Schengen and EU, or Australia entry.

The width and height are the same for all of them, but the head guides differ a little, because each country asks for a slightly different head size. With the India entry, the head from crown to chin fills about 72% of the photo height. The UK entry uses 70%, Australia 75% and the EU 76%. Pick the entry for the country you apply to and the green oval follows it.

For printing, the photo is saved at 413 × 531 pixels, which is exactly 35 × 45 mm at 300 DPI. A 4 × 6 inch sheet holds 8 copies, and an A4 sheet holds 30.

For a US passport photo 2x2 online, choose USA passport / visa 2 × 2 in under Other countries. The frame becomes square, and the green guides set the head at about 60% of the photo height, inside the range the US rules give.

For printing, the photo is saved at 600 × 600 pixels at 300 DPI, which prints at 2 × 2 inches. If an online renewal or visa form asks for a square digital photo of at least 600 × 600 pixels, choose Online form (pixels) and type 600 × 600, or a larger size if your form allows it.

The US rules ask for a white or off-white background, no glasses and a neutral expression. The passport size photo maker can give you the white background, but checking glasses and expression is up to you. The Indian visa and OCI entry uses the same 2 × 2 inch shape.

A passport size photo for PAN card forms is smaller than a passport photo: 25 × 35 mm, or 2.5 × 3.5 cm. Choose PAN card 25 × 35 mm under India. The frame changes shape and the head guides adjust to the smaller photo.

For a paper form, print the photo on a 4 × 6 inch sheet, which holds 10 copies of this size, and cut one out. For an online application, choose Online form (pixels), type the pixel size given on the form, and tick Under with the limit in KB if there is one.

Stamp size 20 × 25 mm is in the list as well, for forms that ask for a very small photo. Most other Indian exam, school and bank forms ask for 35 × 45 mm, which is the first entry in the list.

A passport size photo for job application forms, recruitment exams and admit cards often needs two things a passport does not: an exact pixel size, and sometimes your name and the date printed under the face.

Tick Print name and date on the photo, type your name (up to 40 characters) and keep Today's date ticked. A white strip is added at the bottom of the photo, with your name and the date in bold black letters. The head guides move up so the face still fits above it. Passports and visas do not want this strip, so leave it off for those.

Then choose Online form (pixels), type the width and height the form gives, such as 200 × 230, and tick Under with the KB limit if the form sets one. Read each form's own instructions, as they differ from one employer or exam to the next.

To make a passport photo with white background, keep White selected under Background. You can also choose Off-white, Light blue, Light grey, or Other for any colour you pick. A plain background needs our background remover. When you add a photo, a copy is sent to our server, the person is cut out, and the photo is deleted right after. The person is then placed on the colour you chose.

This is the only step that leaves your device. If you would rather not upload anything, choose Keep original. Your photo then stays in your browser from start to finish. The background is the one you took the photo against, so stand in front of a plain, light wall.

If the background remover cannot find a person, or the connection fails, a short message appears. You can keep the original background, or try again with the Remove background button. To remove the background from other pictures, with more choices, use Remove Background.

Your photo shows a frame with two dashed green lines and a green oval. Put the top of the head on the upper line and the chin on the lower line, with the face inside the oval. A faint white line marks the middle, so you can keep the nose centred.

When the background has been removed, the passport size photo maker finds the top of the head, the chin and the centre of the face from the cut-out, and places the frame for you. The Auto-fit again button repeats this after you have moved things. With the original background there is no cut-out to read, so the frame starts in the centre and the Centre button puts it back there.

Drag inside the frame to move it, and drag a corner to make it bigger or smaller. The shape always stays right for the size you chose. With a keyboard, select the frame, then use the arrow keys to nudge it, Shift with an arrow for bigger steps, and plus or minus to zoom.

A live preview next to your photo shows the finished result with its size in millimetres and pixels, so you can check it before you press the button. For a free-form crop of any other picture, use Crop Image.

Many online forms reject photos above a set file size. To make a passport photo under 50KB, tick Under and keep 50 in the KB box, or type any limit from 5 to 5000 KB. The photo is saved as a JPG with the best quality that still fits under your limit.

File size depends mostly on the number of pixels. If the photo cannot get under the limit at the size you chose, a note tells you, and the answer is a smaller pixel size. Choose Online form (pixels) and type the size the form asks for. Small form sizes such as 200 × 230 pixels usually fit well under 50 KB.

The KB limit works with JPG only. PNG files are lossless and cannot be squeezed to a set size, so the box is greyed out when PNG is chosen under More options. To shrink other pictures to a size in KB, use Compress Image.

A 4x6 passport photo sheet is the easiest way to get prints. 4 × 6 inches is a standard photo print size at most photo shops and print kiosks, and one print holds several copies of your photo. Choose 4 × 6 in under Print sheet, and the sheet is made together with the photo.

The photos are laid out in rows, centred on the sheet, with a 2 mm gap and light dashed cutting guides between them. The result tells you how many copies fit: 8 copies of a 35 × 45 mm photo, 10 of the PAN card size, or 2 of a 2 × 2 inch photo.

Choose A4 to print at home on plain paper or photo paper. You get the A4 sheet as a JPG and as a PDF, and it holds 30 copies of a 35 × 45 mm photo. Choose No sheet if you only need the single photo.

As a passport photo maker for print, the tool works in real sizes. With Printing (300 DPI) selected, the pixel size is worked out from the millimetres at 300 dots per inch. The DPI is also written into the JPG file, so a printer or print shop knows the intended size.

At a shop, hand over the 4 × 6 inch sheet and ask for a normal 4 × 6 print with no cropping and no borders. At home, open the A4 PDF and print at 100% or Actual size, not Fit to page, or the photos come out slightly smaller.

The thin grey border around each photo helps you cut straight, and you can turn it off under More options. Measure one printed photo with a ruler before you cut them all. To put other pictures on a printable page, use Image to PDF.

You can make a passport photo on iPhone without an app. Open this page in Safari, tap Select photo, and take a new picture or choose one from your library. iPhone HEIC photos open directly, and every photo is turned upright automatically.

On Android, the same steps work in Chrome. Drag the frame with one finger and use the corners to resize it. When the photo is ready, tap Download photo. The file goes to your Downloads or Files app, from where you can upload it to a form or send it to a print shop.

For the best result, ask someone else to take the photo from a little over a metre away, at eye level, with the phone held upright. A selfie at arm's length tends to make the face look bigger and slightly stretched. To turn other iPhone photos into JPG files, use HEIC to JPG.

Under More options you can make the photo lighter or darker and change the contrast, each by up to 40 steps either way. This helps with a photo that came out a little dark. It cannot fix harsh shadows or a strong colour cast; for those, a new photo in even light works better.

The photo is saved as JPG by default, which keeps files small. Choose PNG if a form asks for it, but PNG files are larger and do not use the KB limit. The thin grey cutting border can be switched off here, and Reset these options brings all of them back to the defaults.

Cropping, sizing, the name strip, the KB limit and the print sheets all happen in your browser, on your own device. If you choose Keep original, your photo never leaves your device.

A plain background needs our background remover. For that step only, a copy of the photo, reduced to at most 2400 pixels on its longest side, is sent to our server. The cut-out comes back to your browser and the photo is deleted from the server right after. If you choose another photo or leave the page while it is working, the server is told to delete it as well.

The name you type for the strip is not saved anywhere. Only your choices of size and settings are kept on this device, so your next visit starts the same way.

When you add a photo, your browser opens it, turns it upright and keeps a copy of up to 4000 pixels on its longest side. If you chose a plain background, a smaller copy goes to the background remover, which returns the person without the background. The passport size photo maker then reads the cut-out line by line to find the top of the head, the narrowing at the neck and the chin, and places the frame so the head fits the guides of the chosen size.

When you press Make passport photo, the area inside the frame is drawn at the output size on a white or coloured canvas, with your light and contrast changes, the name strip and the border. The JPG gets 300 DPI written in, and the print sheet repeats the photo at its true size on a 4 × 6 inch or A4 page. Ctrl+Enter does the same as the button.

Face the camera with your shoulders straight and look directly into the lens.

Use soft, even light from the front, such as a window in daylight, so there are no shadows on your face or behind you.

Keep a neutral expression with your mouth closed and both eyes open, unless your rules say otherwise.

Take off your glasses if the rules ask for it, and keep hair away from your eyes.

Wear plain clothes in a colour that differs from the background, so the outline stays clear.

Leave space above your head and include your shoulders, so the frame has room to move.

Use the largest original photo you have. A small or heavily compressed photo looks soft when printed.
