This ZIP file to PNG converter opens the archive in your own browser, so for most files nothing is uploaded at all. It reads JPG, WebP, HEIC, GIF, BMP, TIFF, AVIF, ICO and SVG images, keeps transparency, and leaves pictures that are already PNG untouched.

Whether you call it converting a zip file to PNG or a way to extract images from ZIP archives, the main reason people convert a ZIP to PNG is that the archive holds a mix of formats and they need one consistent set of PNG files. A ZIP from a designer, a website export or a phone backup often contains JPG photos, WebP web images, iPhone HEIC pictures and the odd GIF or BMP all together.

This tool converts all images in a ZIP to PNG in a single step. It does not rely on the file names: it looks at the first bytes of each file to see what it really is, so a picture saved with the wrong extension is still found, and a text file called photo.jpg is not mistaken for an image.

A few formats need a decision, and the tool makes the sensible one for you. An animated GIF becomes a PNG of its first frame. A multi-page TIFF gives one PNG per page, named page-1, page-2 and so on. An ICO icon gives its largest size, and an SVG drawing is turned into pixels at 1024 pixels wide unless you choose another width.

You can convert ZIP to PNG free, without unzipping the file first and without installing anything. There is no need to extract the archive to a folder, open each picture in an editor and save it again; the tool reads the ZIP directly and does the whole job in one pass.

The ZIP is opened in your browser, not on our server. For PNG, GIF, BMP, ICO and TIFF images the conversion also runs entirely on your device, using code built into this page. For JPG, WebP, HEIC, AVIF and SVG the browser's own image decoder does the work, again without any upload.

That makes this a quick and private way to handle personal photos or work files. Large archives are processed in the background so the page stays responsive, and the result is built in memory and handed straight to your downloads.

Password-protected ZIP files are supported. When the tool finds that a ZIP is locked, it shows a password box on that ZIP's card. Type the password and press Unlock, and the archive is opened in your browser; the password is never sent anywhere.

Both kinds of ZIP encryption work: the modern AES encryption (128 and 256 bit) used by 7-Zip, WinZip and most current tools, and the older ZipCrypto method still produced by many systems. If the password is wrong, you see a clear message and can try again.

PNG supports transparency, so transparent pictures stay transparent when you convert a ZIP to PNG here. Logos, stickers and cut-out images from WebP, GIF, ICO, 32-bit BMP and existing PNG files keep their see-through areas, which is often the reason to choose PNG over JPG in the first place.

If you need a solid background instead, for example for a document or a website that does not handle transparency well, set Background to White or Black under Options. The transparent areas are then filled with that colour while the rest of the picture stays exactly the same.

When you convert ZIP to PNG here, folders inside the ZIP are kept by default, so photos/holiday/beach.jpg comes out as photos/holiday/beach.png in the result. Turn off Keep folders to put every PNG at the top level; if two images then share a name, the second one is saved as name (2).png so nothing is overwritten.

ZIP files inside the ZIP are opened too, up to three levels deep, and their images are included under a folder named after the inner ZIP. File names in Hindi, Chinese and other languages are read correctly, and clutter added by computers, such as macOS __MACOSX folders and Windows Thumbs.db files, is ignored.

Large photos make large PNG files, because PNG never throws detail away. If you need smaller files, choose a maximum size under Options, such as 2048, 1024 or 512 pixels. Each picture is scaled down to fit inside that size with its proportions kept, and smaller pictures are left as they are.

For a smaller file without changing the size, convert to PNG first and then use Compress Image, or choose ZIP to JPG if the pictures are photos without transparency.

When the ZIP to PNG conversion finishes you see how many PNG files were made, their total size and how long it took, plus a preview of every PNG with its width and height and a Save button for each one.

The summary also tells you how many pictures were already PNG and kept untouched, and lists any file that could not be converted with the reason, such as a damaged picture, so nothing goes missing without you knowing.

Download all saves one ZIP named after your original, for example holiday-png.zip. If you converted a single picture, the button saves that PNG directly. Change selection takes you back to the image list to add or remove pictures, and Convert a new ZIP clears everything for the next archive.

The ZIP to PNG converter works in the browser on Android phones and iPhones, with no app to install. Open this page, tap Select ZIP file and choose the ZIP from your downloads, WhatsApp documents, Google Drive or the Files app.

After the ZIP to PNG conversion, tap Download all to save the PNG files as one ZIP, or Save under any single picture. On an iPhone, ZIP files open straight from the Files app, and on Android from the Downloads folder.

Choose ZIP to PNG when quality and transparency matter: logos, screenshots, diagrams, text, icons and anything you will edit again. PNG is lossless, so the picture is saved exactly, and transparent areas stay transparent.

Choose ZIP to JPG when the pictures are photographs and file size matters more, such as photos for email or a website. JPG files are much smaller for photos, but JPG cannot store transparency and loses a little detail each time it is saved.

If you are unsure, convert to PNG: you can always make a smaller JPG from a PNG later, but you cannot get lost detail back from a JPG.

Untick what you do not need. The image list shows a preview of every picture, so it is easy to leave out duplicates, thumbnails or screenshots before converting, which keeps the result smaller.

Resize big photos. Phone photos are often 4000 pixels or more across; as PNG they can be 10 to 20 MB each. A maximum size of 2048 pixels keeps them sharp on any screen at a fraction of the size.

Keep the folders for organised archives. If the ZIP is sorted into albums or projects, leave Keep folders on so the PNG files stay in the same structure.

Add several ZIP files at once when you convert ZIP to PNG. Each ZIP keeps its own folder in the result, so you can convert a whole batch of archives in one go.

Some privacy-focused browsers, and Firefox with its strongest anti-fingerprinting setting, deliberately scramble pictures that a web page reads back from the screen. That protects you from tracking, but it also means a web page cannot read the pixels of a JPG or WebP it has just drawn.

The only time a picture goes to our server is when your browser's anti-fingerprinting protection blocks it from being read, as explained above, or for a rare TIFF compressed with JPEG. Those pictures travel over an encrypted HTTPS connection, are converted straight away and are deleted immediately. There is no account and no watermark.

A ZIP file is simply a container: it bundles many files into one and usually compresses them, which makes it convenient for sending and downloading. The images inside stay in whatever format they were saved in, so a ZIP is not itself an image and cannot be turned into a single picture. Turning a zip into PNG really means converting the pictures inside it.

PNG is the most widely supported lossless image format. It keeps every pixel exactly, supports transparency and opens in every browser, editor and operating system. That makes a ZIP of PNG files a safe choice for designers, websites, documents and printing.
