It can be free because your own phone or computer does the work. Flipping is a light job for any device, so there is no server to pay for and no queue to wait in. Once the page has loaded, each picture is ready in a moment, even on a slow connection.

To flip image horizontally means swapping its left and right sides, exactly as a mirror does. A person looking left now looks right, a road bending one way bends the other, and a logo in one corner moves to the opposite corner. The top stays at the top. Choose Flip, then Horizontal, which is the default, and press Flip horizontally.

Typical reasons are a selfie that looks reversed, a product photo that should face the text next to it, two pictures that should face each other in a layout, or a design that must be printed backwards. Saved files get -mirrored added to their name, so you can tell them apart from the originals.

One thing to know before you start: any writing in the picture will read backwards afterwards. There is more on that further down.

To flip image upside down, choose Flip and then Vertical. Top and bottom swap places, as if the picture stood on a mirror lying on a table, but left and right stay where they are. Use it to turn a reflection in water the right way up, for patterns and textures, or for artistic effects. Saved files get -flipped added to their name.

Both flips the picture horizontally and vertically at the same time. The result looks exactly the same as turning it by 180 degrees, as the hint under the buttons points out, and the file name ends in -flipped-both. If a photo was simply taken upside down, Both is what you want, not Vertical alone, because Vertical would leave it mirrored from left to right.

The Mirror effect makes a perfectly symmetric picture. Choose Mirror effect under What to do, then pick Which half to keep: Left half, Right half, Top half or Bottom half. That half stays as it is, and a mirrored copy of it replaces the other half. The picture keeps its original size.

This is a popular way to see what a face would look like if both sides were identical, and it is fun with buildings, trees, cars and landscapes. With Top half or Bottom half you get a horizon reflected onto itself, like a perfectly still lake. Patterns and textures turn into kaleidoscope-like designs.

Like everything else here, this mirror image online free effect needs no sign-up and adds no watermark. The mirror line is always the exact centre of the picture, so place your subject first: if the face or building is not in the middle, use Crop Image until the centre line sits where you want it. Saved files end in -mirror-effect.

Front cameras show you a mirrored preview, because that is how you know yourself from the bathroom mirror and it makes framing easy. Many phones then save the photo the other way round, the way other people see you. That is why a selfie can look strange afterwards: your parting is on the wrong side, a smile seems uneven, and writing on your shirt is reversed in the preview but correct in the photo, or the other way round.

Neither version is wrong; they are simply mirror copies of each other. If you prefer the look of the preview, mirror image a photo with Flip and Horizontal and it will match what you saw on screen. Webcam pictures and screenshots from video calls often behave the same way, and the same flip fixes them.

Phones also have a camera setting that decides how future selfies are saved; on iPhone it is in Settings, under Camera, and many Android phones have a similar switch in the camera app. For photos you already took, a horizontal flip here is the quick fix.

Reflection adds a mirrored copy of the picture next to it, which fades out the further it gets from the picture, like a product on a glossy table or a landscape above still water. Choose where it goes: Below, Above, Right or Left. Below is the classic look for product shots, logos and app screenshots.

Size sets how big the reflection is, from 10% to 100% of the picture's height, or of its width for Right and Left. Fade, from 0% to 100%, sets how faint the reflection starts: at 0% it begins almost as strong as the picture, at 100% it begins very faint. Either way it fades away to nothing at its far edge. Gap adds 0 to 80 pixels of space between the picture and its reflection.

Background fills the empty parts: Transparent, White or Black. A transparent background needs PNG or WebP to stay see-through, so the reflection can sit on any coloured web page. The picture becomes larger, because the reflection and the gap are added to it: a 1000 × 800 photo with a 50% reflection below becomes 1000 × 1200 pixels. Saved files end in -reflection.

Iron-on transfers are printed and then pressed face down onto the fabric, so the print must be backwards to read the right way round on the shirt. Mirror text does that for lettering without any picture: tap Make mirrored text under the box, or choose Mirror text under What to do.

Type your text in the box and press Enter for a new line. Choose a font from Arial, Georgia, Impact, Courier New, Times New Roman, Verdana, Trebuchet MS and Comic Sans MS, set the size from 20 to 400 pixels and pick a colour. The text is drawn in bold. Fonts come from your device, so if one is missing, your browser uses a similar one instead; check the preview.

Choose a Transparent background for clean lettering you can place in any layout, or White for a solid sheet. Then press Make mirrored text and Download PNG to save mirrored-text.png. The mirror image text is saved at the size you chose, so for large prints pick a bigger text size rather than stretching the file later. If you add pictures while Mirror text is on, the tool switches back to Flip.

Some printing jobs need the whole picture reversed, not just the text. Many iron-on transfer papers for white and light fabrics, some sublimation work and window stickers that are stuck on from the inside of the glass all need a mirrored print. To flip image for printing, choose Flip and Horizontal, save the file and print it at its normal size.

Always check the instructions that came with your paper. Transfer paper for dark fabrics is often printed the right way round and laid face up, so mirroring it would make the design come out backwards. Many printer drivers also have their own mirror setting; use either that or this page, not both, or the two flips cancel each other out.

Flipping does not change the pixel size, so the print comes out as sharp as before. For a design with a transparent background, save as PNG so the empty areas stay empty. If the picture needs a set width in pixels first, Resize Image does that, and Image to PDF puts it on a page ready to print.

A flip moves every pixel, including the ones that form letters, so any words, numbers, signs and logos in the picture end up backwards after a horizontal flip and upside down after a vertical one. This tool cannot keep the text readable while it flips the rest of the picture: it does not recognise text, and there is no option for that.

If a flipped picture must carry readable text, flip it first and then write new text on top with Add Text to Image. For a photo where only one sign reads backwards, there is no one-click fix; that part would have to be edited by hand in a photo editor. And if the text should be backwards on purpose, as for a transfer, use Mirror text.

Rotating turns a picture around its centre, like turning a printed photo on a table: nothing is mirrored, and text stays readable, only tilted. Flipping turns the picture over, like looking at it from behind through the paper: it becomes a mirror copy of itself.

A photo lying on its side needs a 90° turn, not a flip; Rotate Image does that, and any other angle too. A photo that is upside down because the camera was held the wrong way needs a 180° turn, which is the same as Both here. Vertical alone is only right when you really want the picture mirrored from top to bottom, such as turning a water reflection the right way up.

Normally a flipped picture is drawn again and saved as a new file. For PNG that is lossless: every pixel stays exactly as it was, only in its new place. For JPG and WebP it means one more round of compression, at the Quality you set from 60 to 100, with 95 as the default. At 95 the difference is very hard to see, but it is not zero, and the file size can change.

To flip image without losing quality in JPG photos, open More options and tick Lossless JPG: Flip JPG photos without re-saving them. Then the photo data is not touched at all. Only the orientation tag in the file changes, the same small note phones use to say which way up a photo was taken. The photo itself stays byte-for-byte identical, and camera details such as date and location stay in the file too.

Browsers, phones and photo apps follow the tag and show the flipped picture. Some old programs and a few websites ignore it and show the photo as it was before the flip; if that matters where the file is going, leave the option off and save a normal copy. The option works in Flip mode for JPG files saved as JPG, any rotation already in the tag is taken into account, and the result list shows lossless (orientation tag) next to each file that used it.

Same as original is the default. JPG stays JPG, PNG, GIF and BMP become PNG, WebP stays WebP, and HEIC and AVIF photos are saved as JPG, which opens everywhere. An animated GIF is flipped as a still picture of its first frame.

Choose PNG for screenshots, graphics, logos and anything with transparency; it is lossless. Choose JPG for the widest support and small photo files, and WebP for websites. PNG and WebP keep transparent areas; in JPG they are filled with white, or with black when you chose a black reflection background.

Pictures that are drawn again do not carry over camera details such as date and location. Only the Lossless JPG option keeps them, because it leaves the file as it is apart from the orientation tag. To remove such details from an original photo on purpose, use Remove Metadata.

To flip image free in bulk, select many files at once, drop a pile on the box or use Add more: up to 100 pictures go into one batch. The same settings apply to every picture, and the preview shows the first one, so check it before you start. The button shows how many pictures will be processed.

The pictures are processed one after another at full resolution. The result list shows each new file name with its pixel size, how it was saved and its file size, and Download all (ZIP) saves everything in one archive called flipped-images.zip. Single files can be saved from the list too. Change settings clears the results, so you can try another look on the same batch without adding the files again.

For big batches of large photos, a computer is more comfortable than a phone, because it has more memory.

To flip image on iPhone or iPad, open this page in Safari or any other browser, tap Select images and choose from Photos or Files. HEIC photos work directly. Saved files go to Downloads in the Files app; from there, Share and Save Image move them into Photos. The Photos app can flip a single picture in its crop view too; this page adds batches, the mirror effect, reflections, mirrored text and lossless JPG.

On Android, pick pictures from the gallery or a file manager, and results land in the Downloads folder. On Windows and Mac, any current browser works: drag pictures from a folder, or copy one and paste it with Ctrl+V. The ZIP opens with the built-in tools of both systems, and nothing needs to be installed.

Your pictures are read, flipped and saved by your browser, and nothing is sent to our server: no file, no preview, no copy. That makes the page safe for family photos, ID documents and work files. Each picture is opened by the browser, turned the right way up using its own orientation tag and drawn onto a canvas at full size. The canvas is then mirrored horizontally, vertically or both; for the mirror effect one half is drawn twice, once mirrored; for a reflection a flipped copy is added and faded out with a gradient. The canvas is saved as PNG, JPG or WebP. With Lossless JPG no canvas is used at all: the tool reads the current orientation tag, works out the new one and writes it back into the original bytes.
