How to convert an EPUB file to PDF
To convert EPUB to PDF, add your book to the box above, pick a page size and a text size, and press Convert to PDF. A few seconds later you get a normal PDF file with numbered pages, ready to read, print, share or keep. You can add up to ten books at once, and each one becomes its own PDF.
The tool also reads MOBI, FB2, XPS and CBZ files, so most DRM-free e-books you own can be turned into a PDF the same way. Pictures inside the book stay in place, chapters become bookmarks in the PDF, and the title and author of the book are copied into the PDF's details.
There is nothing to install and no account to make. The book is sent to our server over a secure connection, laid out as pages, sent back to you as a PDF, and deleted right after.
- 1
Add your e-book
Tap Select EPUB file, drop the book on the box, or paste it with Ctrl+V. MOBI, FB2, XPS and CBZ files work too. Add up to 10 books, 100 MB each.
- 2
Choose the page size
A4 or Letter for home printers, A5 or 6 × 9 in for a book-like page that reads well on tablets, or B5 for a page in between.
- 3
Choose the text size
Small, Normal, Large or Extra large. Larger text gives more pages, but each page is easier to read.
- 4
Convert and download
Press Convert to PDF. Download the PDF, or all of them in one ZIP when you converted several books.
The defaults suit most books: A4 pages with Normal text. Your last page size and text size are remembered in your browser, so the next book is converted the same way.
EPUB and PDF: what is the difference?
EPUB is the most common file format for e-books. Inside, an EPUB is a small package of web pages, pictures, fonts and a table of contents, zipped into one file. There are no fixed pages. Instead, an e-reader app pours the text onto your screen and makes new pages whenever you change the font, the text size or the screen. That is called a reflowable layout.
A PDF works the other way round. Every page has a fixed size and every line sits in a fixed place, so the book looks the same in every app, on every screen and on paper. That is why PDF is the format printers, print shops, schools and many apps expect.
Converting means making that choice once. You pick the page size and the text size, the tool pours the book onto pages of that size one time, and the result is saved as a PDF. After that the pages no longer change, wherever you open the file.
Why turn an e-book into a PDF?
Many people want an e-book as a PDF because PDF opens almost everywhere. Every computer, phone and tablet has a PDF viewer built in, while EPUB often needs a separate reading app. A PDF can also be printed directly, marked up with notes, highlighted in common PDF apps, shared by email, or uploaded to a learning platform that does not accept EPUB.
Fixed pages also help when you need to point at something. In a PDF, page 42 is page 42 for everyone, which matters for a reading group, a class or a citation. In an EPUB, the page numbers depend on each reader's screen and settings.
Finally, a PDF is easy to combine with other files. You can put a book and your notes into one file with Merge PDF, take out a single chapter with Split PDF, or make a large file smaller with Compress PDF.
Some people simply prefer fixed pages. A PDF feels more like a printed book: the page you saw yesterday looks the same today, pictures stay next to the text they belong to, and you can see at a glance how far you are through the book.
An EPUB to PDF converter free of sign-ups and watermarks
This is an EPUB to PDF converter free for everyone. There is no sign-up, no trial period, no watermark on the pages, and no limit on how many days you can use it. You can convert up to ten books in one go, each up to 100 MB, which covers almost every novel, textbook and illustrated book.
Free does not mean cut down. Every book is laid out by MuPDF, an engine that several PDF readers use to show pages, so the pages are clean and the text stays real text that you can search, select and copy. Pictures keep their place, chapters become bookmarks, and the book title and author are written into the PDF.
Many people look for a free converter without ads inside the file and without hidden limits, such as only the first few chapters being converted. Here the whole book is converted, every time, and nothing is added to your pages.
EPUB to PDF online free, on any device
You can convert EPUB to PDF online free from any device with a modern browser: Windows, Mac, Linux, Chromebook, iPhone, iPad and Android. Open this page, add the book, press the button and download the PDF. Nothing needs to be installed, and nothing is left behind on the device apart from the PDF you download.
Because the work is done on our server, an older laptop or a phone converts a book just as fast as a new computer. The page layout is made by PyMuPDF, a well-known toolkit built on MuPDF, which reads EPUB files directly and writes standard PDF files that open in any viewer.
Converting online works best on a stable connection, since the book is sent to the server and the PDF comes back. A typical novel is under 1 MB and takes only a few seconds. Large illustrated books and comics of 50 to 100 MB take longer, mostly because of the upload.
Before you convert: a quick checklist
Is the book DRM-free?
Books from Gutenberg, Standard Ebooks and your own files are fine. Store purchases from Kindle, Apple Books and Kobo usually are not.
Where will you read or print it?
Screen in your hand: A5 or 6 × 9 in. Printer: A4 or Letter, matching your paper. Print shop: ask for the page size.
How big should the text be?
Normal suits most people. Large or Extra large for easier reading, Small to save paper.
Is the file complete?
If the EPUB was downloaded on a phone or from cloud storage, make sure it finished downloading before you add it.
Which settings should I use?
Reading on a computer
A4 or Letter with Normal text. Fills the screen nicely and shows a lot of text on each page.
Reading on a tablet or phone
A5 or 6 × 9 in with Normal or Large text. Short lines fit the screen without zooming.
Printing at home
A4 or Letter, matching your paper, with Normal text. Print at Actual size or 100 percent.
Printing as a small book
A5 with Normal text, printed two pages per sheet or as a booklet, then folded.
Easy reading for tired eyes
A4 with Extra large text for print, or A5 with Large text for a screen.
Saving paper
A4 or Letter with Small text, printed on both sides of the paper.
Comics and manga (CBZ)
B5 or 6 × 9 in for most comic and manga pages, A4 for large album pages. Text size has no effect.
Proof copy for an author
6 × 9 in or A5 with Normal text, printed to check headings, scene breaks and pictures on paper.
EPUB to PDF A4 size, Letter, A5, B5 or 6 × 9 in
The page size decides how many words fit on a page and how the PDF looks on a screen or on paper. These are the five sizes you can choose.
| Page size | Measures | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| A4 | 210 × 297 mm | Home and office printers outside North America, reading on a computer |
| Letter | 8.5 × 11 in (216 × 279 mm) | Home and office printers in the USA and Canada |
| A5 | 148 × 210 mm | Tablets, small screens, printing two pages on one A4 sheet |
| 6 × 9 in | 152 × 229 mm | A classic paperback page, print shops, tablets and e-readers |
| B5 | 176 × 250 mm | Between A5 and A4, larger books and study guides |
For EPUB to PDF A4 size, keep the default A4 page. The text is laid out to fit an A4 sheet exactly, with comfortable margins, so it prints well on any home printer outside North America and reads well on a laptop or desktop screen. If you live in the USA or Canada, choose Letter instead, which is a little wider and shorter.
A4 holds a lot of words per page. With Normal text, a typical novel becomes about half as many pages as the printed paperback. If the lines feel too long to read comfortably, pick a larger text size, or choose A5 or 6 × 9 in, which give shorter lines that feel more like a real book.
The page size is the same for the whole book. If you need some pages at another size later, you can split the PDF and convert the book again with a different setting, then join the parts with Merge PDF.
EPUB to PDF large font: bigger text for easier reading
For an EPUB to PDF large font result, open the Text size card and choose Large or Extra large. The whole book is laid out again with bigger letters, so each line holds fewer words and the book gets more pages. This is real text at a larger size, not a zoomed-in picture, so it stays sharp on a screen and on paper.
Large text helps people who read with tired eyes or low vision, children learning to read, and anyone reading on a small screen or from a printout held at arm's length. Extra large works well for printed reading copies, since it can be read without glasses by many people.
Text size and page size work together. Large text on an A4 page gives comfortable lines for printing. Large text on A5 or 6 × 9 in gives short lines that fit a tablet or a phone without zooming. Small text fits the most words on each page, which keeps a long book down to fewer sheets of paper.
Some books set their own font sizes for headings, notes or poems. Those parts grow and shrink together with the rest of the book, so the look of the book stays the same, only bigger or smaller.
EPUB to PDF with images: pictures stay in place
When you convert EPUB to PDF with images, the pictures inside the book are kept. Photos, drawings, maps, diagrams and decorative chapter headings are placed in the PDF where the book puts them, between the paragraphs they belong to. They keep their original quality, as nothing is squeezed into a smaller file.
A large picture is scaled down to fit the page width, so it never gets cut off at the edge. On smaller page sizes such as A5, a full-page picture may be shown a little smaller than on A4. If your book is mostly pictures, such as a cookbook, an art book or a children's book, A4 or B5 shows them best.
Comic books in CBZ format are a special case. A CBZ file is simply a ZIP of page pictures, and each picture becomes one page of the PDF. For comics and manga, this gives a clean PDF that opens in any viewer.
If the PDF is too large to email once the pictures are in it, Compress PDF can make it smaller, usually with little visible change.
Chapters, bookmarks, title and author
An EPUB has a table of contents, and the tool keeps it. Each chapter in the book's contents becomes a bookmark in the PDF, also called an outline. In most PDF viewers you open the bookmarks panel or sidebar and tap a chapter to jump straight to it, just like in an e-reader app.
The title and the author of the book are also kept. They are copied from the EPUB into the PDF's document details, so the PDF shows the right title in viewers, in file managers and in many library apps. The file itself is named after your EPUB, with .pdf at the end.
Links inside the book, such as footnote links and links in a printed table of contents page, depend on how the book was made. Most books still have a contents page at the front, and the bookmarks give you a second, reliable way to move around.
Bookmarks follow the order of the book's table of contents. If the book has parts with chapters inside them, the bookmarks usually show the same structure in the sidebar of your PDF viewer.
How many pages will my PDF have?
An e-book has no page count of its own, so the number of pages in your PDF depends on the two settings you choose. A larger page holds more words, and smaller text fits more words on each line. The same book can become a short PDF on A4 with Small text, or a long one on A5 with Extra large text.
As a rough guide, a novel on A4 with Normal text has noticeably fewer pages than the printed paperback, because an A4 sheet is much larger than a paperback page. On 6 × 9 in with Normal text, the page count comes closer to a printed book. A5 is a little smaller again, so it gives a few more pages.
Pictures, chapter openings and headings also add pages. Most books start each chapter on a new page, so a book with many short chapters has more pages than one with a few long chapters. The result card shows the exact number of pages and the file size of each PDF, so you can see straight away whether the settings suit you.
If the number is not what you hoped for, press Change settings, pick another text size or page size and convert again. Your book is still in the list, so you do not need to add it a second time.
How large will the PDF file be?
A PDF made from a novel or another book that is mostly text is usually small, often well under a few megabytes, because the words are stored as text and the fonts are included only once. It is easy to email, upload or keep on a phone.
Books with many photos or drawings make larger files, since every picture is kept at the quality it has inside the book. A cookbook, travel guide or comic can become tens of megabytes. That is normal and keeps the pictures sharp.
If you need a smaller file, for example to send it by email or upload it to a site with a size limit, run the finished PDF through Compress PDF. It reduces the pictures while the text stays sharp. For very long books, Split PDF can also cut the book into parts, such as one file per section.
EPUB to PDF for printing at home or at a print shop
To make an EPUB to PDF for printing, choose the page size that matches your paper. Pick A4 for A4 paper or Letter for US Letter paper, then print the PDF at 100 percent or Actual size, so the margins stay as they are. Normal or Large text is easy to read on paper.
For a book-like printout, choose A5. In your printer settings, print two pages on each A4 sheet, or use the booklet option if your printer offers one, and fold the sheets in the middle. The result is a small book with the same pages as the PDF.
If you plan to have the book printed and bound at a print shop, 6 × 9 in is a common paperback page size, and B5 is common for larger books and study guides. Ask the shop which page size they need before you convert, since a PDF made at the right size prints without scaling.
Printing a whole novel uses a lot of paper. Small text on A4, printed on both sides, keeps the number of sheets down. To print only some chapters, open the bookmarks to see where they start, then type that page range in your print dialog, or cut the chapters out with Split PDF.
EPUB to PDF for Kindle: what works and what does not
There is no special Kindle file to download here: the tool makes PDF files. That is still useful for an EPUB to PDF for Kindle plan, because Kindle e-readers and the Kindle app on phones, tablets and computers open PDF files. Amazon's Send to Kindle service, through email, the app or the website, accepts PDF files and adds them to your Kindle library.
A PDF keeps fixed pages, so on a 6 or 7 inch Kindle screen a full A4 page is very small. For reading on a Kindle, choose A5 or 6 × 9 in and Large text. The page then fills most of the screen and the text can be read without zooming. On a larger Kindle or a tablet, A5 with Normal text works well.
If you simply want to read an EPUB on a Kindle, Send to Kindle can also take the EPUB itself and turn it into a Kindle book whose text you can resize. Converting to PDF is the better choice when you want the same fixed pages on every device, the same page numbers as a printed copy, or a file you can also print.
Books bought in the Kindle store, in AZW, AZW3 or KFX format, are locked by Amazon with DRM. They cannot be converted here, and the tool will tell you so if you try to add one.
Reading the PDF on a screen
A PDF shows fixed pages, so the best way to read it depends on your screen. On a laptop or desktop, A4 or Letter pages look like a printed document, and you can show two pages side by side on a wide screen. Most PDF viewers also have a fit to width view that makes the text fill the window.
On a phone, a whole A4 page is small. Smaller page sizes such as A5 or 6 × 9 in, together with Large text, fit the screen much better. You read one page at a time and swipe to the next, much like a reading app, and you rarely need to zoom.
On a tablet, A5 or 6 × 9 in with Normal text is a good balance. In landscape mode, many tablets can show two pages at once, like an open book. Night or dark modes in PDF apps can make reading in the evening easier, even though the PDF pages themselves are white.
Most PDF viewers remember where you stopped, and the bookmarks panel lets you jump between chapters. Search works too, so you can find a name or a quote in a long book in seconds.
How to convert EPUB to PDF on Mac
To convert EPUB to PDF on Mac, open this page in Safari, Chrome, Firefox or Edge, click Select EPUB file and choose the book in Finder, or drag the EPUB from a Finder window onto the box. Choose the page size and text size, click Convert to PDF, and the PDF lands in your Downloads folder. It opens in Preview with a double-click.
This works on any Mac that runs a current browser, including older Intel Macs and new Apple silicon Macs, with nothing to install. In Preview, open the sidebar and choose Table of Contents to see the chapter bookmarks.
Books bought in the Apple Books store are protected with DRM and cannot be converted. DRM-free EPUBs, such as books from Project Gutenberg, from many publishers and indie authors, or books you wrote yourself, work well. If your EPUB is stored in iCloud Drive, make sure it is downloaded to the Mac before you add it.
If you have several books, select them all in Finder and drag them onto the box together. Each book becomes its own PDF, and you can download them in one ZIP file, which macOS opens with a double-click.
How to convert EPUB to PDF on iPhone and iPad
To convert EPUB to PDF on iPhone, open this page in Safari, tap Select EPUB file and choose Browse to pick the book from the Files app or iCloud Drive. Choose the page size and the text size, tap Convert to PDF, then tap Download PDF. Safari saves the PDF to the Downloads folder in Files, where you can open it, share it or save it to Books.
The same steps work on iPad, where you can also drag an EPUB from the Files app straight onto the box when both apps are side by side. On a phone, A5 or 6 × 9 in pages with Large text are the easiest to read.
The EPUB needs to be a file in Files, for example one you downloaded, received by email or saved from another app. Books bought in Apple Books are protected with DRM and cannot be converted.
Once the PDF is in Files, you can open it in Books to keep it with your other books, share it to a messaging app, or send it to a printer with AirPrint. The bookmarks panel in Books and in most PDF apps shows the chapters.
On Android, Windows and Chromebook
On Android, open this page in Chrome or any other browser, tap Select EPUB file and choose the book from Files, Downloads or your cloud storage. Tap Convert to PDF and then Download PDF. The PDF is saved to your Downloads folder and opens in any PDF viewer.
On Windows, Linux and Chromebook, it works the same way in any modern browser. You can also drop several EPUB files on the box at once, and each book becomes its own PDF. When there is more than one, you can download them together in one ZIP.
On Android, the downloaded PDF opens in Google Drive, the Files app or any PDF reader you have installed. You can then share it, print it or move it to an SD card or cloud storage like any other file.
Convert several books at once
You can add up to ten books at once, each up to 100 MB. Drop them on the box together, or add more with the Add more button after the first ones. The list shows each book's name and size, and you can remove any of them before you start.
When you press Convert to PDF, the books are converted one after another with the same page size and text size. The button shows which book is being laid out. If one book cannot be read, for example because it is locked with DRM, a short note appears next to that book and the others are still converted.
Each book becomes its own PDF, named after the book file. Download them one by one from the list, or press Download (ZIP) to get them all in one ZIP file. A whole series or a reading list can be ready in a few minutes.
To join a series into one large PDF, convert the books first and then put them together with Merge PDF, in the order you want. Keep in mind that one very large file is slower to open on a phone than several smaller ones.
Convert EPUB to PDF without Calibre
Calibre is a popular free desktop app for managing e-books, and it can convert books between many formats. It has a lot of settings, which is great for some people and too much for others. To convert EPUB to PDF without Calibre, you only need this page: no download, no install, no library to set up.
Here the choices are the two that matter most for a PDF: page size and text size. The rest is handled for you. Pictures are kept, chapters become bookmarks, title and author are copied, and the text stays searchable. For most books, that is all you need.
An online converter is also handy on devices where Calibre is not available, such as an iPhone, an iPad, an Android phone or a work computer where you cannot install software. If you already use Calibre and like its fine control, keep using it; if you just want to convert a book or two, this page is quicker.
There are several ways to turn an e-book into a PDF. This table shows how they differ, so you can pick the one that fits.
| What to check | This page | Calibre | Print to PDF from a reading app |
|---|---|---|---|
| Install needed | No, works in the browser | Yes, a desktop app | No, but you need the app |
| Works on iPhone and Android | Yes | No | Sometimes |
| Page size choice | A4, Letter, A5, B5, 6 × 9 in | Many sizes and custom | Only what the print dialog offers |
| Text size choice | Small to Extra large | Yes, with many options | Uses the reading settings |
| Chapters as bookmarks | Yes | Yes | Usually no |
| Searchable text | Yes | Yes | Usually yes |
| DRM-protected books | No | No | No |
Based on the usual behaviour of each option in October 2026. Desktop apps and reading apps change between versions, so check the one you use.
Supported e-book formats
EPUB
The standard e-book format, used by most publishers and libraries. Both EPUB 2 and EPUB 3 books without DRM are converted.
MOBI
The older Kindle format. DRM-free MOBI files, such as old downloads from free e-book sites, are converted like an EPUB.
FB2
FictionBook, a format popular for e-books in Eastern Europe. The text, pictures and chapters are converted to PDF pages.
XPS and OXPS
Microsoft's page format, often made by Print to XPS on Windows. The pages already have a fixed size and are kept as they are.
CBZ
A comic book archive: a ZIP of page pictures. Each picture becomes one page of the PDF, in order.
AZW, AZW3 and KFX
Kindle store formats, locked by Amazon with DRM. These cannot be converted, and the tool says so when you add one.
Comics, manga and CBZ files
Comics, manga and graphic novels are often shared as CBZ files. A CBZ is a ZIP archive of page pictures, usually JPG or PNG, named in reading order. The tool opens the archive and places each picture on its own PDF page, in order.
Because the pages are pictures already, the text size setting has no effect on a comic. The page size still matters: each picture is fitted to the page you choose, so pick a size close to the shape of the comic pages. B5 and 6 × 9 in suit many comic and manga pages; A4 suits larger album pages.
Comic files can be large. Each file can be up to 100 MB here. If a collection is larger, split it into volumes first and convert them one by one, then join them with Merge PDF if you want one file. CBR files, which use the RAR format, are not supported.
XPS and OXPS files
XPS and OXPS are Microsoft page formats. Windows used to create them with the Microsoft XPS Document Writer printer, and some scanners and older programs still save them. Many people find these files hard to open on phones and Macs.
Unlike EPUB, an XPS file already has fixed pages. The tool keeps each page as it is, with its text, pictures and layout, and saves the result as a standard PDF that opens everywhere. The text size setting does not change XPS pages.
What changes in the layout
An e-book has no fixed pages, so the tool has to create them. It lays out the book again for the page size and text size you chose. That means the PDF will not look exactly like the screen of your e-reader app: line breaks, page breaks and the number of pages are all new.
The book's own styles are used where possible, such as headings, bold and italic text, lists, quotes and centred lines. Books with simple styling come out very close to the original. Books with complex designs, such as text in several columns, text wrapped around pictures, unusual fonts or advanced effects, may look simpler in the PDF, because not every style an EPUB can contain has a direct match on a fixed page.
Fixed-layout EPUBs, such as some picture books and comics, were designed with set pages. They usually convert well, but each page is fitted to the paper size you chose, so pick a size close to the shape of the book.
If something looks wrong, try a different page size or text size first. A larger page gives complex layouts more room.
Page numbers printed inside an EPUB, such as page markers copied from a print edition, are not used for the PDF pages. The PDF is numbered from its own first page, and your PDF viewer shows that number as you read.
Books with DRM cannot be converted
Many books bought from online stores are locked with DRM, a copy protection that ties the book to one app or account. This includes Kindle books in AZW or KFX format, books from the Apple Books store, and most Kobo and Google Play Books purchases. A locked book cannot be read by any converter, including this one, and you will see a message explaining that.
DRM-free books convert well. You can find them on Project Gutenberg and Standard Ebooks, at many independent publishers and authors who sell DRM-free, in course packs from schools, and of course in books you wrote and exported yourself. Some stores also show whether a book is DRM-free on its page.
If the store you bought from offers a PDF download, use that instead. It is the publisher's own PDF with the original page design.
Removing DRM from a book you bought may break the store's terms or the law where you live, and this tool does not do it. If you want a PDF of a bought book, check whether the store or the publisher offers a DRM-free or PDF edition.
Where to find DRM-free e-books
Project Gutenberg
Tens of thousands of public domain books, free to download as EPUB with no DRM. Classics, poetry, history and more.
Standard Ebooks
Carefully edited public domain books with clean EPUB files, made by volunteers. They usually convert very neatly.
Your own writing
Books, reports and stories you exported as EPUB from a writing app or with Word to EPUB are yours to convert.
DRM-free shops and publishers
Some publishers and many indie authors sell books without DRM. Their store pages often say so next to the format.
Libraries and courses
Some schools and universities share open textbooks as EPUB files. Check the licence that comes with them.
Older downloads
MOBI and EPUB files you downloaded years ago from free e-book sites are often DRM-free and work well.
Common uses
Studying and teaching
Turn a textbook or a reading list book into a PDF so everyone has the same page numbers, then add notes and highlights in any PDF app.
Reading groups
Share one PDF so the whole group can say turn to page 80 and mean the same page.
Printing a public domain classic
Download a free EPUB from Project Gutenberg and print it as an A5 booklet or a large-print copy.
Authors and self-publishers
Turn your own EPUB into a PDF review copy, or a proof for a print shop at 6 × 9 in.
Learning platforms and uploads
Many course sites, forms and apps accept PDF but not EPUB.
Keeping an archive
A PDF with title, author and bookmarks is easy to file, search and open years from now.
Reading on a work computer
Where you cannot install an e-book app, a PDF opens in the browser or the PDF viewer that is already there.
Large-print copies
Make a copy with Extra large text for a grandparent, a reading group or a classroom, and print it at home.
E-books for school and study
Students often receive course books and reading lists as EPUB files, while their notes, slides and papers are PDFs. Turning the e-books into PDFs puts everything in one format that works in the same app, with the same tools for highlighting, notes and search.
Fixed pages also make citing easier. When a teacher asks you to read pages 120 to 145, everyone with the same PDF has the same pages. Agree on one page size and text size in the class, such as A4 with Normal text, and share the PDF rather than each person converting their own copy.
For exam revision, you can take out the chapters you need with Split PDF, add your own notes, and combine them with lecture handouts using Merge PDF. Printed chapters on A5 pages fit easily into a bag or a folder.
Large print and accessibility
Many readers need larger print. An e-reader app lets you change the text size on screen, but a printout or a PDF for someone else needs the size set in advance. With Large or Extra large text you can make a large-print copy of a DRM-free book for a relative, a reading group or a classroom.
For printed large-print copies, A4 or Letter with Extra large text gives big, clear letters with short lines. For screen reading, A5 with Large text keeps the pages easy to handle while the text stays big. The text in the PDF is real text, so it can be searched, and read-aloud features in many PDF apps can read it out.
Contrast also helps. The PDF has dark text on white pages, which prints well and works with the zoom and colour options of most PDF viewers.
Highlights, notes and annotations
Highlights, notes and bookmarks you made in a reading app are usually stored by the app itself, not inside the EPUB file. They are therefore not part of the PDF. The PDF contains the book as published: its text, pictures, chapters, title and author.
Once you have the PDF, you can add new highlights and notes in almost any PDF app, such as Preview on Mac, the Files app on iPhone and iPad, Adobe Acrobat Reader or Microsoft Edge on Windows. Because the pages are fixed, your notes stay exactly next to the words you marked, and anyone you share the PDF with sees them in the same place.
This makes a PDF copy handy for studying, editing and reviewing. You can mark a passage on page 57, send the file to a classmate or co-author, and they see the same mark on the same page.
Is it safe? Deleted right after
Your book is sent to our server over an encrypted HTTPS connection. There it is laid out as PDF pages, the PDF is sent straight back to your browser, and both the book and the PDF are deleted from the server right after. Nothing is kept, shared or used for anything else.
No account is needed, so there is no profile linking you to the books you convert. The settings you choose, page size and text size, are remembered only in your own browser, so the next conversion starts the way you like.
As with any online tool, only convert books you are allowed to use. Books you wrote, public domain books and DRM-free books you own for personal use are the usual cases.
The connection between your browser and our server is encrypted, so other people on the same network cannot see the book while it is sent. No copies are kept for training, analysis or anything else, and there are no ads in the tool.
How it works
The conversion is done by PyMuPDF, a Python toolkit built on MuPDF. MuPDF can read EPUB, MOBI, FB2, XPS and CBZ files, and it lays out reflowable books on pages of any size, using the book's own HTML and CSS styles. It is the same engine used in several well-known PDF and e-book readers.
When you press Convert to PDF, each book is sent to the server one at a time with the page size and text size you picked. MuPDF lays out the book on pages of that size, the pictures are placed in the text, the table of contents is turned into PDF bookmarks, and the title and author are written into the PDF's details. The finished PDF comes back to your browser with a count of its pages.
Because the text is laid out as real text, not as pictures of text, the PDF stays small for a text-only book, the words can be searched and copied, and the pages stay sharp at any zoom.
The pages are not printed through a virtual printer or turned into images. The PDF is written directly by MuPDF, which keeps the file compact and keeps the text, bookmarks and document details in it.
Words you may see
Reflowable
Text that is poured onto the screen and rearranged when the screen or text size changes. Most EPUB books are reflowable.
Fixed layout
Pages with a set size and position for everything, as in a PDF, a picture book or a comic.
DRM
Digital rights management: copy protection that ties a bought book to one store's apps. Locked books cannot be converted.
Bookmarks or outline
The clickable list of chapters in the sidebar of a PDF viewer. Your book's table of contents becomes this list.
Document details
Information stored inside the PDF, such as the title and the author, shown by viewers and file managers.
MuPDF and PyMuPDF
MuPDF is an open source engine for reading and drawing PDF and e-book files. PyMuPDF is the toolkit that lets our server use it.
Common problems and fixes
This e-book could not be read
The book is most likely locked with DRM, or the file is damaged. Try a DRM-free copy of the book, or download the EPUB again.
Kindle AZW or KFX file not accepted
Kindle store books are locked by Amazon and cannot be converted. Look for a DRM-free EPUB of the same book.
Text is too small to read
Choose Large or Extra large text, or a smaller page size such as A5, and convert again.
Too many pages
Choose Small text or a larger page such as A4 or Letter. Fewer, fuller pages are easier to print.
Layout looks simpler than in my reading app
Complex styles such as columns or wrapped text may be simplified. Try a larger page size, or accept a cleaner layout.
The PDF is too large to email
Books with many big pictures make large PDFs. Run the PDF through Compress PDF to make it smaller.
The file is larger than 100 MB
Very large comics or picture books go over the limit. Split the comic into parts, or reduce the pictures first.
The download did not start on iPhone
Tap Download PDF again and check the Downloads folder in the Files app. Safari asks once whether to allow downloads.
Some characters show as boxes
The book may use a font it does not include. Converting again will not change this; a different edition of the book often fixes it.
The chapters are not in the bookmarks
Bookmarks come from the book's own table of contents. If the EPUB has no table of contents, or an empty one, there is nothing to copy.
The title in the PDF is wrong
The title and author come from the EPUB itself. If the book file has the wrong details, the PDF has them too; you can change them in most PDF editors.
Converting takes a long time
Large books with many pictures, or many books at once, take longer. Most of the time is the upload, so a faster connection helps.
Tips for a better PDF
Think about where you will read the PDF before you convert. A screen in your hand wants small pages and bigger text; a printer wants pages that match the paper. A minute spent on the two settings saves converting twice.
Check the page count in the result. If a 300-page paperback turns into 900 pages, the text is probably larger than you need; if it turns into 90 pages, the text may be too small to read comfortably.
Use the bookmarks. Most PDF viewers have a sidebar or a contents button that shows the chapters, and it is the quickest way to move around a long book.
Keep the original EPUB. The PDF is a copy laid out for one page size; if you later want another size, convert the EPUB again rather than resizing the PDF.
Try one book first. When you convert a whole series or reading list, convert one book, check the result, and then add the rest with the same settings.
For printing, open the PDF and look at a few pages at full size before you print hundreds of sheets. Check the text size, the pictures and where the chapters start, and print a single test page if you are not sure.
Keeping your books for years
A PDF is a good format for keeping books for many years. It is an open standard, every computer and phone can open it, and it does not depend on one store or reading app. The title and author stored in the file help library apps and file managers sort your books.
Give each PDF a clear file name, such as the author and the title, and keep the original EPUB next to it. The EPUB can be read in any e-book app with your own text size, while the PDF gives you fixed pages for printing and sharing. Together they cover almost every way you might want to read the book later.
What to do with your PDF next
Once your PDF is ready, you can do more with it. Merge PDF joins several books or volumes into one file, Split PDF takes out single chapters, and Compress PDF makes a large illustrated book small enough to email.
To go the other way, PDF to EPUB turns a PDF into a reflowable e-book, and Word to EPUB turns a manuscript into an EPUB. PDF to Word makes the text editable, and TXT to PDF turns plain text files into neat pages. You can find all reading formats under Ebook Tools.

Does it work online on any device?
Yes. You can convert EPUB to PDF online free in any modern browser on Windows, Mac, Linux, Chromebook, Android, iPhone and iPad. Nothing needs to be installed.
How do I convert EPUB to PDF on Mac?

How do I convert EPUB to PDF on iPhone?
Open this page in Safari, tap Select EPUB file and pick the book from the Files app. Tap Convert to PDF and then Download PDF. The PDF is saved in the Downloads folder in Files.
Can I make an EPUB to PDF for Kindle?
Yes. Kindle e-readers and the Kindle app open PDF files, and Send to Kindle accepts them. For a small Kindle screen, choose A5 or 6 × 9 in pages with Large text. There is no separate Kindle file format here.
Do I need Calibre or another app?
Use this page. To convert EPUB to PDF without Calibre you only need a browser: add the book, choose page and text size, and download the PDF. Nothing is installed.
How do I get A4 pages?
A4 is the default page size. Leave it selected, choose a text size and press Convert to PDF. The result is an EPUB to PDF A4 size file that prints well on A4 paper.
Are the pictures in the book kept?
Yes. Every EPUB to PDF with images conversion keeps the pictures inside the book in their place, at their original quality. Large pictures are scaled down to fit the page width.
What is the best setting for EPUB to PDF for printing?
Choose the page size that matches your paper, A4 or Letter, with Normal or Large text, and print at Actual size. For a small booklet, choose A5 and print two pages per sheet.
How do I get bigger text in the PDF?
Choose Large or Extra large in the Text size card before you convert. An EPUB to PDF large font file has bigger, sharp text and more pages.
Are the chapters kept?
Yes. The book's table of contents becomes bookmarks in the PDF, so you can jump to any chapter from the sidebar of your PDF viewer.
Are the book title and author kept?
Yes. The title and author are copied into the PDF's document details, and the file is named after your EPUB.
Will the PDF look exactly like my e-reader?
Not exactly. The book is laid out again for the page size and text size you choose, so line and page breaks are new. Simple books look very close; complex layouts may be simplified.
Can I convert Kindle, Apple Books or Kobo purchases?
Usually not. Books bought from these stores are locked with DRM, and locked books cannot be converted. DRM-free books, such as those from Project Gutenberg, work well.
Which other e-book formats are supported?
MOBI, FB2, XPS, OXPS and CBZ comic files, as long as they are not DRM-protected. Kindle AZW, AZW3 and KFX files are not supported.
Is there a file size or page limit?
Each book can be up to 100 MB, and you can add up to 10 books at a time. There is no limit on the number of pages.
Is my book safe?
Your book is sent over an encrypted connection, converted on our server and deleted right after, together with the PDF. No account is needed.
Can I select and search the text in the PDF?
Yes. The text is real text, not pictures, so you can search it, select it and copy it in any PDF viewer.
Can I convert several books at once?
Yes. Add up to 10 books. Each one becomes its own PDF, and you can download them one by one or all together in a ZIP.
Can I turn the PDF back into an EPUB?
Yes, with a PDF to EPUB tool. Keep the original EPUB if you can, though, because it holds the book's own layout and styles.
